Mmmmmm
Cucumber and tomato sandwiches. I know I could eat them all year round, but they just seem better suited to the warm weather. And of course they would be even better if I'd made bread recently, and if the tomato, so red and promising on the outside, had not turned out to be so pale and disappointing on the inside. Still, they are a Good Thing. And they always remind me of a wonderful week in Gardiner, the town just outside of Yellowstone where my friend Martha was living when I last visited in 1995. I ate cucumber and tomato sandwiches every day, read, drove, hiked, sang, enjoyed Martha and Dan's friendship and hospitality, and was just about as content as a body has a right to be.
